Do you want to have fun at your family session? Of course, right?! Well, I have some tips to make your family photo session something you&#8217;ll enjoy. And the result will be beautiful photos that show how much you love each other.
Next to making beautiful family photos that you&#8217;ll cherish forever, making sessions fun is what I always strive to do. Obviously, when your kids are happy, it shows in the photos. Plus, it just makes the whole thing more enjoyable. One of the best compliments I ever receive is that everyone had fun. Even Dad. 😀 Read on for some tips, and then check out a session where we had A LOT of fun!
First, trust your photographer! A good photographer knows how to get kids&#8217; attention, how to keep them engaged in the session, and how to make them laugh. Sometimes it may seem like kids aren&#8217;t doing what I ask, but I always have a plan. I know how hard it can be, but try to trust me. I promise that if I need your help, I will let you know! 🙂
Second, remember to enjoy the time you&#8217;re spending with your family! Emotions show in photos. If you&#8217;re having fun with your kids and connecting with them, it&#8217;ll show! I know that getting everyone dressed, ready, and on time can sometimes be stressful. If that&#8217;s the case, try to leave all of that behind once the session begins. Let me worry about getting your kids to look at me when it&#8217;s time, and know that we&#8217;ll also be doing lots of photos where you&#8217;re focused on each other.
Third, and stay with me here: Let go of perfection! Know that sometimes kids are crazy. Sometimes babies don&#8217;t smile as much as they usually do. Sometimes things just don&#8217;t go exactly like we plan. But everything doesn&#8217;t have to go perfectly to capture your family as you are at the phase of life you&#8217;re in. That lovey they don&#8217;t want to let go of, the grumpy face they make, the way your baby refuses to be put down and just wants to hold on to you&#8230;all of the little things that you might not have planned are still a part of who everyone is, and I think it&#8217;s all perfect and worth capturing!
This session was so much fun! I hadn&#8217;t met this family before, but they trusted me and my silly games and really enjoyed their time together. Mom even texted me after the session to tell me how much fun EVERYONE had, which is such an amazing compliment! And when they came back <a href="https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=905862051133276&amp;set=pb.100051284677714.-2207520000">a year later for more photos</a>, the boys remembered me and were so excited to take more pictures &#8211; they even told me that they couldn&#8217;t wait until next year! 😀
